The Adventure

INTRODUCING MYSELF

My name is Jessica Ordenes I'm from  Chile. I was born and raised in Quilpue. I work as an English teacher at AIEP Institute in Vina del Mar.
In my free time I love reading and watching movies. And when I am at home I like cooking for my son, daughter and my husband.
The first thing I had to do before coming to Chicago was saying goodbye to my family. I love them!

My husband is called Miguel. We have two children, Catalina is nine years old and Sebastian is sixteen. They are very nice!.

ARRIVING TO CHICAGO

After a long and delayed journey I arrived to Chicago. The view is beautiful from the aircraft the windy city looks snowy. It's amazing.

I came to this city to improve my English and also to learn about culture and new teaching methodologies.

VISITING THE WINDY CITY

It's winter here in Chicago and it's really cold but the landscapes and views are beautiful and there are lots of interesting places to visit.

January, 13th

We go to the Chicago Cultural Centre. In this place you can see high walls, ceilings and floors decorated with mosaics with different colors and designs made of very small pieces.

January, 14th

Today we visit the Art Institute where you can see beautiful pieces of art like paintings, sculptures and photos. Paperweights are my favorite in this place. They have many different designs, colors and sizes.

Chicago Group

Most of the members in the group met in Santiago before the trip, but when we came to Chicago we started sharing many experiences.

We attend to classes from Monday to Thursday at 9:00 o'clock and we finish at noon. We get up very early so that we can have a delicious breakfast at Kendall College.

We take the bus and the train to get to different places in the afternoon. We enjoy every moment and all the experiences we have in a day.

Every place we visit is recorded in lots of pictures that can capture special moments.

CHICAGO ZOO

When we visited the zoo the main thing that caught my attention were the Apes. I think they are so similar to us, they walk, take care of their babies and relax stretching legs and arms.
I had a very special feeling when they looked at me straight in the eyes.
I took some pictures and my favorites are the following:

 Beautiful colors

Very long fur.

Love at first sight

DEAR FUTURE STUDENTS:

This immersion program is really great. You will know everything about the city when you finish it. You will also be able to move from one place in the city to another using public transportation . If you come in winter you should wear at least four layers of clothes and very warm jacket and boots . If you need to bring electronic devices don't forget an adaptor.

When you go to classes dare to speak! That way teachers will help you to improve your English a lot.

It's very useful a pen and a copybook to take notes of important things in classes and also your laptop to save  information and do the homework.

You can't forget your camera, there are lots of beautiful places and moments that you will want to record.

Sincerely,

Jessica Ordenes Espindola
